Mohab Abou-Elkawam
Mohab Abou-Elkawam started his
career at sea in the early 80s, progressed from Third Mate to Master Mariner
over 17 years of seagoing experience. Started teaching in his own country’s
epic Maritime Education and Training Institution in 1999 (AASTMT) where a
diversion towards a more academic oriented career was launched. He was granted
a distinguished scholarship from the Nippon Foundation in Japan twice; once for
his Master of Science studies at the World Maritime University in Sweden and
the other for his PhD. at the Seafarers International Research Centre in
Cardiff University in the UK. His passion was always teaching and maritime-
based research which he never stopped even at times of completing his studies.
Having taught in Egypt, Sweden, Cardiff and Lowestoft in the last 15 years, he
is currently a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University in England.
His major area of teaching is Maritime Law and he is focusing his research
interests on the interaction between Seafarers worldwide and marine
environmental legislations and conventions.
