Manasi Dutt

Manasi is interested in investigating the effect that HR policies and practices have on organisational behaviour, with a view to exploring working relationships between seafarers onboard and between ship and shore staff.

She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Human Sciences from Durham University in 2006. She then worked with a B2B market research company and was involved in managing the research process and writing executive summary reports. She followed this by attaining a MSc in International Human Resource Management and Comparative Industrial Relations from Manchester Business School in 2009.

While completing her MSc, she was granted funding from the Nippon Foundation to undertake the PGDip in Social Science Research Methods at Cardiff University, followed by PhD research. Her doctoral thesis focused on the work environment onboard ships and its effects on seafarers' experiences of ill-treatment onboard. The main themes identified and discussed in her work were professional socialisation, the shipboard hierarchy, distance management and HR policies and practices.

She graduated in 2015 and is currently working with the Schulte Group.

In her spare time, Manasi enjoys spending time on country walks, creative writing and reading fiction. She also enjoys learning new languages and is currently focusing on learning German.
