My PhD research explored the governance of maritime stowaways and their treatment in the global shipping industry. The research was based on analyses of various documentary sources as well as interviews with a wide range of actors including seafarers, former and active stowaways. Prior to the PhD research, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University as part of the SIRC-Nippon Foundation Fellowship. My undergraduate degree was a BSc in Nautical Science from the Regional Maritime University in Ghana. I also obtained a Class 3 Certificate of Competency (Deck - Ocean Going) from the same university. I worked on board cargo ships for a limited period before coming to Cardiff. I have an interest in maritime-related issues, history, politics, literature and social theory. I am currently working as a Research Associate at SIRC.
